student321 is on a distinguished road
Hello everyone,

I am a student from germany and fairly new to Ansys. Right now I am working on a project where I am trying to simulate a cyclone separator. I created the model in Autodesk Inventor and I am trying to simulate it in Ansys Fluent. My problem is that in my model there are actual holes where the Inlets and Outlets should be and I can not choose those as boundaries. I feel like this is a rather easy task to handle, but I am trying and trying and I am not able to resolve this problem.

I tried adding a boundary in Inventor and importing it in Ansys. In the DesignModeler I can actually see the boundary, and I can choose it as a component in the Meshing module. But as soon as I switch to Fluent it's not in available in the Boundary selection.

I tried filling it with material, so I can actually pick it as an Inlet, but then I get a wall which I can not set as an interior.

I tried adding an Opening in the DesignModeler, but then i get the same problem as in my first try, where i set the boundary in Inventor.

I tried creating a new model, where I have no thickness for the walls, but there I get some other problems as well.

I am actually so desperate for help I don't know what to do.

I hope someone understands what I am trying to do and can actually help me.

By the way I am using Ansys 18.2 Academic Version.

Prior to working with Ansys I used Comsol for simulating such problems, there it's actually possible to just choose some edges and create a face/boundary out of those edges. I am just missing this option in Ansys. Since Comsol gave me many other problems, I am trying to switch to Ansys which seems to work way faster, but I am just not getting how to handle it.

I uploaded my model as an attachment. I hope this helps.
