Merge Two Meshes

3 Attachment(s)
Hello Guys,

I am working on a mesh for a propeller, inside of a rectangular duct . I have already make the structured mesh for the propeller as you can see in the first picture. Also for the duct I made a structured mesh, as you can see in the second picture. The common face is the green area. I am trying to merge these two domains in a proper way. The final result would be like something, third picture. I want the air flow to pass through the blue inlet circle and the red inlet area to be a wall! After this, I would solve the case in CFX! Can anyone suggest me a way to do it right ; Any advice would be useful , thanks in advance!

Follow these steps.

1)Save the first mesh (propeller) as a seperate project (eg. project1). Name it's outer boundary as eg. Interface_1 before you save it. (make sure you convert to unstructured mesh before saving it)

2) Save the second mesh(outer mesh) as a seperate project (eg. project2). Name it's inner boundary (the one that will merge with interface_1 with a new name (eg. Interafce_2). (make sure you convert to unstructured mesh before saving it)

3)Now create a new project (eg. project3). Open the geometry of project1 and then open the geometry of project2.

4)when you open the geometry of project 2 you will be given an option to replace or merge geometries. choose merge.

5)Now open the unstructured mesh for project 1 followed by the unstructured mesh for project 2 and choose merge as well.

And then bam, you have your desired mesh.

Thanks

Problems with merging geometry

Hey @sheerez234

I tried to do what you described here, but I have a problem in merging geometry. When I load the second geometry and click merge, the two geometries never merge on interface, but on another wall. Although I have defined all my geometry.. do you know any possible mistakes I made?

Why do you want to merge these?
In CFX, you can import both meshes separately and define a sliding interface between the rotating and the stationary part, not? Then both volumes will be treated as separated meshes, so there is no need to merge. Not even in a frozen rotor simulation......

hey Gert-Jan
thanks for your answer, but i am not the guy who originally post this thread. i try to mesh a transacted rotor with smallblades. so i have one geometry with mesh which is 10mm wide and another with different kind of blades, which is 90mm wide. i need to merge them on an interface surface, but they always merge on the outer wall of 10mm wide geometry, so i got an overlapping meah

Hi Shereez,

I have a doubt regarding this.
If we open 2 geometries and perform merging, will the 2 interfaces created get merged or we need to merge them manually.
I am working on a geometry consisting 2 cylinders with 2 different blocking setups. so meshed them separately and tried to merge the meshes as you suggested. But its not happening.
The 2 surfaces remained as it is and my structured mesh changed to unstructured.
I have attached screenshots for the reference and any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
