Dear all,
I want to make ribs in the wall of helical pipe by using Spaceclaim of Ansys 17.2.
It's difficult to copy the ribs in the wall of the pipe. Because coordinate changing every location. I have tried for the straight pipe and It works. But for the helical pipe I don't know what to do.
Do you have any suggestion for my case?

Thank you so much
Best regards
PS. I attach sample of ribs and helical pipe

I would recommend to use design modeller or better to use some full fledged cad software e.g. solidworks.

Hey teguh,

I don't know if you already tried it but.
One thing that comes to my mind is creating the section you want in the sketch with the ribs.
Then copying the surface to another location as you prefer the shape of your helical pipe and using the blend tool in SpaceClaim.
But this will create a continuous pattern for your ribs.
So you have to slice them by creating a pattern of planes.
Here is a demonstration of my try.

Thank you Baris. For the solution. I have not tried yet because my supervisor asks me to do firstly in the straight tube with the ribs then spiral tube with the ribs. I will try your suggestion. I will ask you if I find a problem.

Thank you a lot for your suggestion.
Best regards
Teguh

vasava will become famous soon enough
You can try this
  1. Make a spiral and make sure you preserve the helical curve that you have used to make the spiral.
  2. Create one instance of the pattern.
  3. Select the instance.
  4. Activate move tool for moving along a curve.
  5. Press ctrl and move.
  6. You can input distance by pressing space-bar after moving the instance once.

Dear vasava

Thank you for your reply. I have made a rib in spiral tube. My steps are same as yours. But, rib near inlet and outlet position gradually change. The length of total pipe is 8 meters. Here I attach the picture. How to solve the problems?

Thank you for your help

best regards
Teguh

It looks like you have them as separate bodies, cant you simply elongate or shorten them?

I will look if I can find some efficient way. e.g. parameterising it.

Dear vasava

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have not cut the pipe. I just draw te cutter. To guide pattern I use a line in the center of the pipe to make sure each 4 ribs in circumference in the same length from the inlet. I also have plan to make it shorthen but I dont know how to long it would be because I dont know the length of entrance region in this case. parameterising seems good idea.

Thank you for your help
best regards
