Hello Everyone,

I am doing Hexa structured meshing in ICEM for Tesla type turbine ( Picture is attached ). I have done blocking and premesh. I get good quality ( determinant > 0.7 ) when I do not use any inflation layer.

When I try to use inflation later, I get many negative elements as well determinant is lower than 0.3. I have tried " Block check oprions / inverted block option", but I am not able to understand what is the problem.

1. Do I need to create more O-grid blocks in circular section ? I tried this but my blocking become more messy and all associations gets distorted.

2. Any other blocking strategy?

3. The major problem is in region between nozzle and disk.

Attached some pictures for your reference. Please do not hesitate to ask more pictures or explanation.

This project is very important to me hence I am even fine if you directly contact me on phone if you feel so. From past three weeks tryning to solve this but no success. hence came to this forum.

Thank you very much.

Avinash

Dear Avinash,

the blocks look fine, I don't quite get why you want to introduce inflation layers separately: just set up properly the pre-mesh divisions with the actual distances you need. Can you post a picture of the mesh (the one with det > 0.7)?

I think more O-grids actually help you to get a less distorted mesh. try to play with the vertices positioning tools in the pre-mesh tab. You can also give the specific coordinates (maybe you can design your blocking strategy in autocad or similar and then import it as curves, this is how I do).
Can you zoom in the nozzle region to see what the situation looks like now?

Hope this is helpful.
Regards,
Giulio
