Ansys/Matlab Geomerty Interfacing

I am looking to couple ansys' simulation capabilities with some optimization algorithms I have developed in MATLAB.

Using workbench Scripting commands and the appropriate toolboxes I have been able to create a reliable interface between ANSYS and MATLAB in terms of importing variables, generating basic meshes and carrying out FLUENT simulations.

However the next step in my work is to somehow break down my ANSYS geometry (basic flow structures through an Al body) into an array or matrix of data points that could be read, interpreted and altered via MATLAB. Once coupled with my optimization algorithms, I will then need to convert my geometry array back to a form that can be read back into ANSYS.

I am looking for any recommendations on files structures, conversion techniques or general knowledge about bridging the MATLAB/Ansys gap for geometry or mesh data.
