Suction Pipe Submerged In Water Tank

2 Attachment(s)
Hello,

apologies for the assumingly trivial question, but I'm strangely having a difficult time finding out how to solve this problem. It's been a long day of nonstop CFDing and this one little problem is just making my brain go :confused::confused:

I'm trying to model a suction pipe for a tank of water. The pipe is vertical with a 90 degree bend to horizontal to where it exits the tank (as illustrated in the first picture). I haven't come across this scenario before, because any similar scenario tends to be a "T-junction" (where the pipe meets the wall, but not protrudes in. As shown in the second image).

How do I make it so the pipe wall is a separate entity to the tanks internal fluid domain but allow flow through the pipe?

Thanks in advance! :D

* The first picture isn't a tutorial unfortunately and anything similar online is for 2D models"

make two parts , differently name it and give form new part

hello rosstoal

Can you please share with me the 2D tutorial??

Im trying to do a similar simulation, but having trouble in modeling..

Thank you very much!

Pump Sump Vortex Check Simulation

hi im trying to simulate the fluid flow for a pump suction submerged in water tank but currently i couldnt get my result do to convergence issue. i confuse how is the right geometry and setup for my case. i think the mesh is good with skewness less than 0.8 and minimum orthogonal quality is larger than 0.2. im currently using transient k-epsilon turbulent with PISO pressure-velocity coupling. can somebody tell me the best geometry and setup ?

1. Does it converge for a while but then stop before reaching your convergence criteria? Or does it diverge? 2. What is the geometry and boundary conditions?

its diverge. i will attach my geometry profile. the inlet velocity is 0.4 m/s with pressure around 50 kPa and pressure outlet is with the amount of 28 kPa. i create another named selection to define the air inlet with inlet pressure is atmospheric.
