[ANSYS Meshing] Joining/merging lines

Hello everyone,


I am simulating a quarter of a cylinder and I have problems with the circumference because ansys meshing splits the circumference in different arcs, which I do not want.


I design the 3D with CATIA and import it by means of Design Modeler in .igs. Everything looks fine in Design Modeler (the line is continuous) but when I transfer the geometry to meshing (I am using workbench) the same line is shown split (I am attaching two screenshots: the design modeler with the line highlighted and the ansys meshing where the points are shown and it can be seen how the same line is split in four segments).


How can I avoid this? Or how can I merge these lines in ansys meshing so there are the same line? I want to use edge sizing and these splits make it very difficult.

That is very annoying, and I have run into it several times.

I don't have an easy fix. Perhaps modeling this directly in design modeler would help, though I've seen issues there too sometimes.
On something this simple, you shouldn't have an issue if modeled in design modeler instead of importing though.


If anybody else has an easy fix, that would be appreciated.

Thank you for your reply. At least I know I am not the only one
The thing is I would not know how to do all those geometries in Design Modeler, specially the curved and the diagonal lines, have you done it before?
Furthermore, this is a quick geometry to show my issue the final geometry will be more complex than this.

Found a couple threads with ideas, but no perfect solution:
Ansys meshing - unwanted edge splits

Also found this, which is not entirely applicable, but may be of some help:
"Use the Repair>>Fix group>Extra edges, or to simply select the cylindrical edges that you see, and delete them. These two methods do not recreate the faces, but rather, remove the boundary (provided the face definitions are close enough to allow that)
Since we are on that, if the faces are not close-enough, that is sometimes what the Simplify tool can do for you, take some currently-spline-but-close-to-simple faces, and replace them with simple faces."


Let us know if you figure anything out.

Hi! I tried the Shared Topology and it works: no more split edges; thank you so much! I now ran into another problem...
Anyway, I followed this tutorial for the Share Topology option, in case someone finds it useful:
