Hello,

I used blocks to have a structured C-Type mesh for an airfoil. But now I have a problem. I need Y+ to be less than 1 on the first layer of boundary layer and this makes the first layer over the airfoil very thin, but this thin layer also goes after the trailing edge where the velocities are HIGH and this causes a high CFL number there. I just want the thin boundary layer mesh to be only around the airfoil and not after the trailing edge. I want the trailing edge mesh gets coarser (The area is shown in the image below). How can I do that?
Thank you in advance.

What you need is a meshing strategy similar to Turbogrid's ATM. Basically it is a layer of blocks revolving the airfoil (the tip should have a minimal curvature, small enough to avoid affecting the results but big enough so that you can assign an edge association to it), a second layer of parallel blocks diverting to the sides and lots of auxiliary curves. Definitely not easy to make it in ICEM, but it is possible. Really tricky to explain here, though. A suggestion: try one of TurboGrid's tutorials with ATM strategy and observe how it organizes the blocks around the blade tips. Once you understand the strategy, try to do a similar approach in ICEM.

Good luck!

Hello,

Another method I think you could try is making a Y-grid with a 1/4 O-grid, as in the videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYrbS...3&feature=plcp

Hello aero_head,
Could you please update the youtube link because the video is down. Otherwise I am not able to erase that clustering in the trailing edge following the video. In case that you know alternatives to erase that clustering, please let me know. I would be pleased to hear your proposals. Thanks in advance.
