Hello
I am searching for advice on a meshing problem. I have two bodies with on which I am inserting prism layers. The bodies merge at a location. Hence, the prism layers also intersect. I have represented them in the attached diagram. The actual distance in the volume marked with the orange cross is much much less. This is exaggerated. But, there is enough gap near the front to fit in both inflation layers and volume elements. The problem is at the rear. Could someone suggest me what to do to improve the mesh quality and not get 'step' mesh? |

You are always going to have inflation layer problems with this. It is a concave version of the convex problem of meshing around a car tyre on a road; here the trick is to 'flatten' the tyre to increase the contact area and thus avoid these very tight regions. Can you cap off the region at the internal apex of intersection, this that region critical for your simulation?
Are you solving in CFX or Fluent? The ANSYS Meshing solver preference for CFX set stair-stepping in the advanced inflation layer option, whilst Fluent set compression (if I recall correctly). |
