Captain Convergence is on a distinguished road
Dear all,

I have a mesh prepared in ICEM that I can run without any problems in ANSYS Fluent. However since I am using another software in my research, the mesh has to be exported as multiblock mesh in memcom format. Since my solver is an in-house solver, there is no such output format available in the ICEM options.

Do you know how to export the mesh in that format from ICEM directly?

Thank you in advance for your time

bluebase will become famous soon enough
Hi Captain Convergence,

Briefly searching on google (since i haven't heard memcom before) revealed the following connection.

memcom seems to be a product of the company SMR (www.smr.ch). In multiple places in the documentation of SMR's products, such as this, they mention an icem to memcom converter. I guess the quickest route would be to contact that company and ask for their services. I would ask if they can offer a test version.

Otherwise, I see only the way left of writing a converter.

You might know ICEM's GUI is mostly programmed in tcl/tk. I remember in some subdirectory of ICEM, i have found some converters related tools written in tcl. If it matters i can have a look at it again to give more specific information on that.

So, with some work you might be able to implement a direct converter considering the memcom reference doc.

Another way would be to figure out if there is a different route, such as exporting to a different FE-related format which is better documented and convert that format into memcom.

Would you share your boundary conditions regarding available time and experience, or whether you can outsource this issue?

Anyhow contacting SMR is certainly the best next step, in my opinion.

Best regards,
Sebastian
