I am trying to run the nasal cavity simulation. For that, I have obtained an STL file from the CT Scan data of a patient. This is my first time using an STL file for simulations so I am having a problem meshing it. I have tried several methods so far. My first preference was to use ICEM CFD but I couldn't find it in ANSYS 2020 R1 suit. I guess they have incorporated it in ANSYS Meshing. I tried using ANSYS Meshing as well but it shows an error 'the mesh generation did not complete due to poor quality elements or incorrect input'. I tried every option for meshing but couldn't get it done.
Can anyone help me with it, please? If someone can help me with Hypermesh or Fluent Meshing, it would be great. I tried Fluent Meshing but I couldn't find an option to make new boundaries (Like 'Named selection' in ANSYS Mesh). Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. |

You're not alone, it seems like although ansys can import an .stl, it needs to be extremely coarse for it to actually work.
It seems to me like it can't create an element which is exactly the size of the face. I think you might have sucess if your mesh size is smaller than the minimum .stl facet size. |

Do you use a student version? - >ICEM might not be available there.
Did you try to use spaceclaim to maybe modify the geometry or convert it into another format which transform the mesh elements into actual surfaces? |

Spaceclaim autosurface and repair tools aren't able to create a CAD body, sadly.
I haven't tried ICEM, but I'll give it a go. I have an enterprise license. Here's to a +1 vote for a software update on .stl meshing! |
