[ICEM] Merging 2 meshings

Hello guys,

I'm an mechanical engineering college student and currently I'm working on my bachelor thesis. It's been a really long way for me with ICEM, since it's very beginner unfriendly and I am pretty new to fluid dynamics.

I have to mesh this domain :

I already have a structured mesh with the geometry, but without the probe-instrumentation, which I could use.

I've tried to merge an unstructured mesh around the probe with the existing mesh, but they just ended up overlapping and think this is not gonna work ?

Should I just rather go unstructured for the full domain ? I think I am not skilled enough for structured meshing especially around the probe-instrumentation.

Even though this is maybe a chilidish question for you guys I'd still be very thankfull if you all could help me out.

Hello,

Have you considered using a O-grid for each probe? I don't see why that would not work - it seems like it would be just like meshing a cylinder (or multiple cylinders) inside a domain.

Hey,

so to be honest with you, I think I'm just too dumb for a structured mesh like this, the one without the probes was hard enough, so I thought unstructured mesh would be the key here.

Hello,

From what I have read about merging meshes from here:
How to merge meshed parts?

1. In ICEM, use extract mesh on a interface.
2. Create a block(s) for extention.
3. Convert the block(s) to Swept with main Source Face on the interface.
4. Use command Associate Face-> Surface/Reference mesh.
5. Create Premesh/Mesh. Merge both parts.
