Hi,
I am meshing a geometry which consists of a cylinder with two plates on both sides of it separated by a gap(between the cylinder and each plate). The whole cylinder and the plates are then immersed in a fluid domain covering everything. I want to mesh the fluid domain around the cylinder, the gap and the plates.I have good quality of mesh except the angle around the gap. The problem is that the thickness of the gap is 1.12mm and when I put 10 nodes, I have bad angles and the elements start to overlap eachother at the edges. When I put 3 nodes or just 2, the angles are good. Its because the thickness too small, I cant add more nodes?? The area in which the angles are bad is highlighted in green in the image. Also I put the blocking. For the simulation: The gap and the cylinder are rotating at the same RPM to measure the friction factor Cf. I appreciate your help. Thank you, ANGELO |

I just realised that even if I reduce the number of nodes in the gap, the problem is still the same. I have bad elements between each two elements.
See in the figures the elements in red. Why the edges are not straight? Can anyone help me in this matter please? |

Can someone help me please concerning my problem?
The curves are not smooth maybe? I created these curves in design modeler to associate the edges. |

Hi Angelo,
it seems the curves are not coincident with the surfaces. They seem to be ever so slightly next to them. Only the point (in the first image of the second post) seems to be exactly in the surface. There is one thing i would do; try to decrease to topology tolerance, and triangulation tolerance to a much finer value. Maybe it is only a discreetization problem of the geometry. Maybe the curves created in the design modeller where not mathematically exact. Can you try to recreate them in ICEM? Best, Sebastian |
