Remeshing geometry after shape optimization

Hello,
I am working with the gradient-based optimizer from Ansys Fluent. I have added an image of the same geomtry after different processes, which I will refer to below. The image "fin with high mesh quality" represents my initial situation. I have created a 2D geometry, which I have meshed accordingly and want to improve in terms of pressure drop. The calculation in Fluent runs without problems and all equations converge to low residuals. Also a correct pressure drop could be calculated. With the gradient-based optimizer I could then reduce the pressure drop by adjusting the geometry with respect to its topology. In the process, the mesh has become distorted, which bothers me at this point (comparison: image "fin with low mesh quality").

I was already able to export the new shape as an STL file and opened it in Spaceclaim/Designmodeler. However, I cannot work with the then imported geometry. I cannot select the edges, nor can I customize this geometry. I would like to put a rectangle around the imported fin, which should characterize my fluid domain. However, the rectangle is added without reference to the imported fin. The rectangle is effectively underneath it and it is two independent geometries, which therefore cannot be meshed.

In short: How can I remesh a geometry after it has been modified by the gradient-based-optimizer in Ansys Fluent.

As the STL files exported by the fluent is more like a mesh than a surface. you could try to use the spaceclaim reverse engineering tools. Specifically, Skin surface extraction and before that I think you need to transform it to facets if the reverse engineering tools are greyed out.
