Perhaps if you included some more info, you could get some help.

Start with the tools you are using and then describe the geometry sources and types and what you want to do for them...

Connecting pieces of stl and surface geometry in ICEM CFD would be a very different process to extracting the flow volume from a set of CAD imported solids in Gambit...

Hi

i modeled cloud point to solid geometry.geometry is assembly of blade and housing.

i imported assembly geometry with" igs" format to design modeler.geometry is piece meal.how can unit surfaces?????.

I imported assembly geometry to modeler (attached fig).and enclosure housing.but model don’t enter to mesh. after a long time meshing tab is empty( attached fig).and no geometry exist in meshing tab.

how can solve this problem???

What you need to do is use the shroud as an enclosure...

Essentially you end up doing a boolean subtraction where you end up with a third part which is the space between the shroud and the Fan...

Actually if you want the fan to be rotating, you may want to build a cylindrical geometry first.

Subtract the fan from the cylinder to get your rotating volume... Then subtract the cylinder from the shroud to get the surrounding volume.

thanks psymn
surface of blade contacts to fluid.and fluid is surrounding geomtry(housibg) displayed in figure.if i do your idea , is there contact between urface of blade and fluid yet??? sor fluid will contact with surface of cylinder???
meanwhile i enclosured blade.enclosure box is housing that displayed in figure.but problem didnt solved.
please help me.

Just think of your two parts as solids (I am assuming they are both solids, if not, you need to look for the “sew” command first), you have a solid housing and within it is a solid fan. You need to subtract the volume of the fan from the volume of the housing, the result of this Boolean will give you your fluid volume. It doesn’t matter if the fan is touching the shroud or whatever, you are just subtracting the volume of the fan from the volume of the housing.

Here is how to actually do it…

Go to tools => Enclosure

Change “Shape” to user defined.

Set the User Defined Body and select the housing

Set the target bodies and select the fan

Merge parts? No.

Again, if you are planning on having the fan rotate, you may want to put it into a cylinder first.

thanks for your remark
i did exactly same your syntax.but problem didnt solved.after along time meshing tab is empty.i think that piecemealing bodies are caused to this problem.

You need to make sure the housing is a solid first. If it is currently a surface body, you can use the sew tool to stitch it together.

I recomend 12.0 over 11.0 as they have added a number of tools to repair this sort of geometry.

Or you could go back to your source. I am not sure where you got this patchwork geometry, but if it is starting from a mesh, then perhaps taking it into WB thru FE Modeler would be a better process...

hi dear
each other of blade and housing entered to meshing tab separatelly.
but assembly of them that have been enclosured dont enter to meshing tab.
what is this tools that you say?
how can use them?

can i send this iges file to your email ?if dont have problem for you.

I don't really understand your latest question and I don't really have the bandwidth to help at the "tech support" level; could you just send it in to tech support? Its what they are there for...

Just email it to techsupp@ansys.com and they can help you out.

Check your license file, they will want that customer number near the top, include it with the question.
