Hi,
I ve created a mesh in turb. But geometry after runner is pretty difficult. And I need to create hex mesh there. I can do it with Icem, But I don t know how to connect mesh created in turbogrid with mesh created in Icem. Is it possible to be done?If it s possible how can i do it? |

You can't merge unstructured hexa meshes (in ICEM CFD yet, but I have seen a very nice academic presentation proving it is possible), but you could insert a tetra mesh transition region between the hexa turbine and the hexa downstream mesh.
Perhaps a more elegant solution would be to import the turbogrid mesh and convert it to blocking and then merge up the blocking... For this to work, the down stream blocking topology would need to be carefully designed to allow face to face merging. Of course, the easiest way would be to just use a non-conformal interface and just mesh each part separately and put them "next to each-other" in the solver. I think CFX is very robust under these circumstances and you should take the easy route... |

thank you for the answer I don’t want use a non-conformal interface. could you tell me can i import turbogrid mesh and convert it to blocking? or should i do it manually? |

First get the mesh into ICEM CFD...
File => Import Mesh => From CFX. You can extract the geometry using Edit => Mesh to Facets. (do this step even if you plan to just import the actual geometry. This step creates all the node associations. You can easily delete this geometry and then load the bspline geometry before extracting the blocking.) Then Convert the "unstructured mesh" to structured blocking... File => Blocking => Load from unstructured mesh. This should setup most associations, but you may need to clean things up if you have curve segments that need grouping, etc. At the end, you will have the blocking for the first half. Then you can build the second half or just save this blocking file and load it as a sub topology later to merge with the part you created... |

Thank you very much for your answer. But ICEM can’t do it. There are some mistakes. I’ll write it tomorrow.

I have done it a bunch of times with other structured mesh models (nothing from TurboGrid yet). Maybe I forgot a step.
We can probably work it out together. Simon |

Dear Simon,
If geometry is simple, ICEM can create the blocks. Else ICEM interrupting the process and write the message:”"C:/Program Files/ANSYS Inc/v120/icemcfd/win64_amd/icemcfd/mesh2block" __temp_mesh__.uns __temp_blocking__.blk ICEM Mesh2Block 12.0.1 compiled on 4/15/2009 running on Windows (64 bit version) (c) Copyright 1993 - 2009 Ansys Inc. reading mesh... done 1 different hexa ids treading hexa id's as material ids marking layers for collapsing collapsing layer 1 Assertion failed: bar2 != 0, file main.C, line 1109 This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.” P.S. I got success in bunching the mesh in GAMBIT. But it's interesting for me, how I can do it in ICEM. |
