How to split a sphere in ICEM?
Hello, here is a question I have which must seem simple to many of you:
I created a sphere by first draw a circle then let the whole circle to rotate 180 degrees; then I created a plane which intersects with this sphere. Then I use the intersection circle of these two surfaces to split the sphere but it seems that no new surfaces are generated --- anyone can tell me why? Thanks. Zhaohui |
Hello,
i tried your problem and this is what worked for me: create a semi circle from a center and two points. Create a surface of revolution about the semicircle axle. This will produce the surface of the sphere. Then make a surface intersecting the sphere (make the surface larger than the sphere, you can delete it afterwards) Create an intersecting curve from the two surfaces (of the sphere and the just created surface), then build topology. This should split your surface. Normally you could also use segment trim surface I guess. I used the build topology part by part option but this shouldn't be necessary. Let me know if it works and good luck |
yup
I agree, the key to trimming is to interesect the surface with the sphere... then use the intersection curves to trim, either with build topology or trim surface with a curve...
One other thing, there is a quicker way to create a sphere if you want to use the primitives (second last ICON under Create/Modify Surface). |
Thanks for tips!
Thank you for your answer which are very helpful --- and I have tried and they worked!
