3D mesh for pipe intersection

1 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone,
I am trying to mesh a pipe intersection as shown in the fig attached. I am not able to mesh the main pipe using cooper as gambit tells me that the face at the intersection is not mappable or not a correct source face. Also, if I create only a single volume by 'intersection' of the two pipes, how will I mesh the volume in the first place? I want to keep structured mesh (hex).

I first created two volumes (one for each pipe). I kept the intersecting face between the two pipes so that I could define the volumes (my plan is to define this intersection face with internal BC). Then I tried to mesh inlet face of the bigger (main) pipe and apply 'Cooper' in the axial direction and Gambit never took the spacing that I specified.
How to mesh the intersection and how can I control my mesh density in the direction I want?

My main aim is to study the flow of two different fluid phases in the main pipe. So I will have gas inflow from the smaller pipe and will run in Fluent using VOF. I have already done some simple runs in two-phase with single pipe having split inlet.

Can somebody help me with my problem?
Thanks in advance.
Pranab

If you need a full hexa mesh, then you have to decompose your domain
check gambit tutorial: 7. MODELING FLOW IN A TANK (especially step 5)

Max,
I will check it out and get back.

Hi,
I got the mesh I wanted. Well not exactly, but yes I do know now how to do it. The tutorial was helpful and I also searched a pdf on the net. My mesh looks something like attached below. Domain decomposition is the key, so that I could used cooper to project once I get the source faces correct.
Thanks,
Pranab
