Hi everybody
I have to make a mesh for a moving cylinder inside a flow. The mesh is 2D done by ICEM and need to be export in fluent.
My mesh strategy is:
make a structurated mesh around the cylinder to solve the boundary layer
make a box around the cylinder and mesh it with a unstructurated mesh
make a structruated external mesh to simulate a wind tunnel condition.
I make the three mesh separately but on the same geometry and for every mesh create a part(es moving,boundary_layer and steady).
Then I merge the three mesh and export it in fluent. When i open the case file fluent give me a boundary in the merged region, and i'm not able to remove it so i can't run the simulation.
I do the separation to allow only the moving region to deform during the simulation, and that's the only way that i have in mind to do this.
If someone knows what i do wrong please help

Thank you very much

Paul

Since the meshes don't meet node for node (my assumption), you need to use a Non-Conformal boundary. Chose MRF or Sliding Mesh as your Fluent model, then the boundary just needs to be type interface (nothing special).

This works in all non-conformal situations, stationary/rotating, 2D/3D.

For more/better advice, ask these sorts of solver setup questions in the FLUENT users forum.

Oh yea, you can set that up under Fluent Problem Setup => Cell Zone Conditions. This is where you specify if you want a zone to rotate/move and which model to use.

Hi Simon, thank you for the answer.
The fact is that the different meshes meet at node, because I've made the 2D mesh with a with block and convert the block type of the box from structured to unstructured.
Then I've created the different mesh in 3 different file and then merged them together but when I export it to fluent it only gives me the option wall-velocity inlet etc. when what i need is an interior condition.
I've try also to load the mesh from block and then create 3 different part but it gives me the null domain pointer...
It's very frustrating...

Best Regrads,
