a cracked Beam

Modeling a crack in Ansys:

I am working on transverse crack in beams.
I model the transverse crack using NUMMRG command in Ansys.
in which two geometries must be modeled. In the interface of the two geometries , for the uncracked area, nodes are merged to unify and for the cracked area nodes are left unchanged.
Having implemented the above procedure ,my results are no in good agreement with the theoritical ones, it would be highly appreciated if any one can recommend me a better method for modeling a cracked beam in Ansys.
inaddition, I don't know if I have to use contact element in the cracked area or not.
thanks for your time and help in advance

Can't help...

This is more of a solver questions, and an FEA question at that. You may not get much help in this meshing forum on CFD-online. I myself am only a little familiar with crack modeling and can't really help you out.
