Hello, I wonder if anyone has experienced a crash of ICEM related to visual3 (v3p) client not loading properly. The crash occures anytime I try to load the surface_results.dom file in the supersonic missile tutorial, or when when completing any of the Cart3d tutorials Visual3 examples (space shuttle). Attached is a screenshot of the error when loading the super sonic surface_results.dom file.

Sorry, I have not seen that, but one of the limitations of Visual3 is platform support... It works on Windows XP 32 bit, but does not work well on 64 bit windows or on newer windows OSs like Windows 7.

What is your platform/OS?

You may find that desktop aero provides better support for their version of Cart3D... (ANSYS is much more focused on Fluent and CFX) I have not heard any user feedback about their relatively new implementation (I should have put a question mark on the subject heading), but maybe you could try it out and let us know.

Best regards,

Ah, that is helpful to know. My OS is Windows 7 (and of course the docs don't mention any issues with Cart3D on Win7, only Win64bit). At least I know I can crank up a WinXP image and give it a shot.

Regarding DeskTop Aero- is the distribution mature on the Windows platform? I've been to the Cart3D site but seems to be for 'nix OS only.

Yea, it might work on Windows 7 32 bit, but we have not really tested it for that OS, so bugs like you described may be the result. (We do test all the other bits of ICEM CFD on Windows 7).

As I said, I don't know too much about Desktop Aeros offering. I didn't realize they didn't support Windows.

Best regards,

Simon

Ugh. Disapointing news. I setup ICEM on a WinXP Pro w/service pak 3 virtual machine and ran Cart3D on the super sonic missile tutorial. Same crash, on the surface_results.dom file.

I hope ANSYS addresses this issue. The documentation explicity states Visual3 does not work on Win 64bit but states Win 32bit OS should work fine.

(sigh)

Yea, this must be something else... I have a Win 32 XP machine and have never seen this error. If you have access to Tech support, I suggest you use it. you can go in thru the customer portal or email Techsupp@ansys.com. There are also regional phone numbers if you would rather call.

I know this thread is a couple months old, but it may interest users to know that Desktop Aero is currently testing both Window-32bit and Windows-64bit builds of Cart3D. Indications are positive so far and we expect to be providing demos in the next week or two. Please contact me if you are interested. We would also like to test the case that is not working for you. Thanks.
