Extrude Mesh without internal faces

Hi,

I am trying to create a "2D" unstructured mesh in ICEM for use in CFX.

The procedure I am using is to first create a surface mesh, and then extrude this surface mesh one element thick.

I need to break up the fluid domain into multiple surfaces to have better control over the mesh around shapes in the domain. Therefore I have curves crossing the fluid domain.

I am finding that when I extrude the surface mesh, internal faces are created where I used curves to define the surface mesh. So there are faces in the fluid domain that I do not want.

Is there any way to prevent the extrude mesh function from creating these internal edges?

Here is an example of a simplified mesh with an unwanted internal face.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi,

Have you solved this problem>?

thanks.

Do not select line elements for extrusion. Select the shell elements only. It should also be possible to delete those internal faces manually if your model isn't that large. In both cases run check mesh utility to check for possible errors.
