ANSYS and GAMBIT

do we get the gambit software in the ANSYS package ??
if not where would we download it for free ???

no gambit is not in Ansys package but you can mesh your geometry with ICEM or turbogrid if you are modeling a turbomachinary.
i dont think that you can gambit for free but its better to work with ICEM in Ansys package

The official replacement for Gambit is "ANSYS Meshing", which is available (included is almost the same as free) with almost all ANSYS solvers, including CFX, FLUENT, Polyflow, etc.

ICEM CFD is a more powerful tool than Gambit, particularly for Hexa meshing or mesh editing, TGrid and TurboGrid also have very relevant roles depending on what you are working on.

Hi Simon,

With Ansys Meshing, is the geometry generated in there as well, or imported from another modeling program? I no longer have access to Gambit at the new company I work for, so am trying to figure out how to get my models built and sent to Fluent or CFX and am quite lost so far.

Gambit had both Geometry and Modeling in one tool. ICEM CFD was similar.

But ANSYS Meshing has no real geometry tools (except virtual geometry). It assumes you will make the model upstream in some sort of CAD program. If you don't have a CAD program or would prefer a tool that is more tailored to CAE, you could try ANSYS DesignModeler. DM can create CAD from scratch or be used to simplify a geometry from a CAD package.

Actually, I would guess that most users, even those with CAD, still use Design Modeler for its CAE prep capabilities.

Another interesting option is "SpaceClaim". It is a fantastic product for simplifying or modifying CAD geometry for CAE.
