Complex 3D geometry Hexa blocking and inflation layer
Hello everybody,

I am currently working on the meshing process of a very complex geometry (see the printscreens).
To have a better idea of the different volumic parts composing this part, I've tried to upload a small gif animation (the flow enters on the left side, goes through the purple tube, then goes out by the 8 holes to an annular part and goes downstream to the right)

Unfortunately I am encountering a few problems and doubts:
  • I want a smoothly refined mesh nearby the walls, that is why I play with the edge parameter on the O-grids I already defined. It works pretty well around the area of interest but how can I avoid it to propagate in the middle of the volume part? (the picture represents a cut-view in the midplane z, perpendicular to the stream)
  • Then I am trying O-grids that do not work. I assume that I have to make them go through everything even if I just want them around the 8 holes you can see on the video (and where I want the refined boundary as well).
    It might be due to the fact that I already have almost 300 blocks but the resulting blocks from the O-grid cut are all inverted and it is really hard to size them and control anything about them.
  • To finish I have issues while importing the mesh to Fluent: I get this error message:
    Building... mesh
    Cell Centroid is xc 162.783433 yc -9.597915 zc -8.724681
    WARNING: no face with given nodes. Thread 35, cell 254010
    Clearing partially read grid.

    Error: Build Grid: Aborted due to critical error.
    Error Object: #f
I would be really grateful for any help.

At least for the bounday layer inflation issue?

I can't see your picture and I don't have access to the web site imageshack at work. Post your CAO here so we could have a look.

About your fluent error, you should create a new thread.

Is parasolid ok?
In my post I focused on the first left half of the geometry as you will see. But I think my problem is going to be the same for the second half.

Sorry I can't open parasolid geometry file. Please convert it to .Stl format.
