Hello,

I need some help, please

I do my dissertation on CFD turbulence effects on the seabed, validating experimental results. Atm, I have issues with creating the mesh. It keeps saying that there is no 'orientable surface mesh suitable for tetrahedral meshing' and lately it says that there are errors in the CAD model (see attached picture of the mesh & 'How how did I create the CAD?' below). I use the Ansys mesh application and I split the model into 4 parts to use parallel meshing and to decrease the mesh size towards the top (if you know a better way of doing it, please let me know - I am a bit novice in this area).

As shown in the picture, under the mesh tree, there are suppressed meshing options and the number relates to the part: 1 is the bottom left and 2 is bottom right - where the problem occurs.

Initially I tried a patch independent - tetrahedrons method which did not work (see errors on the picture). Trying a body sizing (default size, 8mm) it did work initially, but when added another inflation and/or face sizing (@bottom) it stops. I also decreased the mesh size to 4mm and now did not work. The total length of the model is ~2.3m.

How did I create the CAD?
The bottom bit (bathymetry) was created from Point Cloud to surface in Rhinoceros. The area between the seabed itself and the plain area was created with loft option and as you can see in the attahced picture, it did generate loads of small areas which were merged. The surface was imported in DM and using Boolean substract, the final geometry came out. I am aware that there are loads of NURBS which could create problems, but atm I am not really in the position of re doing the geometry as the deadline is coming up soon (if you know a quick way of doing it, would be great).

See the files here.

Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it!

Cheers,
Pavel
