Extrude mesh

Hi to everyone,
i would like to ask you about extruding a surface mesh.
i have a surface face at the XY-Plane.i am extruding it along z-direction and a 3D mesh is created. but then, when i am creating parts, i can not create a part at the front surface(the one with the highset z-coordinate)from all others i can create parts.i tried to create surfaces at the boundaries of the 3D mesh, in order to assigned to it the parts, but again nothing.can anyone help?

What program are you using?

EXtrude mesh

i am using icemcfd.the solver is ANSYS/fluent v6 for unstructuded meshes

The way I handle this situation is to create the 3D geometry and extrude the mesh as it sounds like you have done. The problem is that the mesh is associated with the surface from which you extruded, not the other parts on which you want to apply boundary conditions.

To fix this, you need to go to Edit Mesh -> Repair Mesh -> Associate Mesh With Geometry. This will assign the closest part to the selected surface mesh elements. I usually select all surface mesh elements and it correctly assigns them to the correct parts.

Upon doing this you should be able to apply your boundary conditions.
