Part 3

Part III is uploaded here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgEKo...ature=youtu.be
Part I is further subdivided into 2 smaller parts as youtube doesn't allow me to upload files with duration more than 10 minutes (Originally part I was 17 min clip)
Uploading part I and II shortly.

ok i was using same but couldn't come up with videos like that !! it's because of the specs :o

Far April 2, 2012 14:42

Ya, lower the specs higher the quality :D

Hello Far

Can you just explain me how to extrude the mesh into a 3D one and necessary changes to the parts and boundary conditions?

Please its urgent. I have to meet my project deadline.

Thanks

Hello far

I am trying to extrude the mesh you had uploaded long ago. It can be obtained from
http://www.4shared.com/rar/LRL3929E/..._complete.html

When I extrude that mesh with 4 layers with a uniform spacing of 1, I am getting error in FLUENT while reading mesh. The error is about the interior circle which you made to capture boundary layer effects with a finer mesh. Kindly please let me know how to make that into 3D mesh as soon as possible.

Thanks
Mahindra

Use the files posted in this thread (post #1).

Sorry I did not get you. What to do with those files?

Can you please tell me what is going wrong when trying to extrude that mesh you have made?

Please its urgent.

Thanks

Far April 10, 2012 07:31

I have attached new cylinder meshing files in this thread at post #1. I have used those files and found no problem.

I am trying to compare simulation results for both 2D and 3D at certain regimes to show disturbances. I cannot use a different mesh now to do 3D analysis. The mesh you provided works fine in 3D also as you have told me earlier. Please find some time to give me some advice by working on that mesh.

Thanks

special case of cylinder-cylinder connection

5 Attachment(s)
Hi,

do you know how to mesh the connection between two cylinders properly when one small cylinder is perpendicular connected to a bigger one at the top/bottom. (picture 1 +2)

I always have bad elements where the small cylinder meets the ceiling of the bigger cylinder. (picture 3)

Is there a good way to make the connection without these bad elements or are they unavoidable respectively of low importance?

kind regards

this picture is better than the above picture 3.

I could extrude the mesh you provided me earlier in http://www.4shared.com/rar/LRL3929E/..._complete.html

But the problem is in the interior circle while reading in FLUENT. Please look into the problem once and give me a solution. Please!!!!!!!!!

Far April 11, 2012 07:07

Delete the interior circle curves before extruding and use link edge command to make the edges of circular shape.

This procedure is defined in part I.

How does the mesh in two regions merge after deleting interior circle?

I tried but did not work. It seems I am going wrong at giving BCs. Please try extruding that mesh with 0.19 spacing and 32 layers.

Please give me directions to work on 3D mesh. Please its urgent.

Far April 12, 2012 04:25

Going to upload two videos (two parts for each and in total four) on youtube today. Worked on both files i.e. attached in this thread and as well as older one.

You can use y-block for sharp corners http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ans...tices-why.html

@ mahi007: In response to mahi007 queries and converted 2-d cylinder (from old) to 3d cylinder.

Thanks for the hint. I've already tried Y-blocking but it's not working...:(
Anyway, the blocking in this geometry looks good. This is just a minor problem.

Far April 17, 2012 05:50

Y-block works for wedge, I am sure you know it. Post pics to identify the problem area.

Here is one picture and I also added the .tin + prj. + blk. + .fbc files. When you apply the quality-criterion Det 3x3x3 at the pre-mesh you will see the region with the bad elements.
