I am trying to perform FEM of CNTs using ansys. I have come across several papers regarding this and have followed the instructions. However, the resultant value of the young's modulus that I am getting is much lower than expected ( ~400GPa instead of ~1TPa) I first made the structure using keypoints and lines. Then i defined the elements (Beam188) and its properties (elastic modulus and poisson's ratio). each element corresponds to a single carbon-carbon bond. i also defined the crossectional properties for the elements. Then i meshed the structure and constrained all DOFs at the bottom and applied a force at the top.

Is there something wrong with the procedure being followed?

also, I am using beam188 instead of beam4 (which is used in the papers) as ansys 14 doesnt support beam4. Can this be the reason for the erronious results?
