Can anyone tell in which software structured meshing of helical blade is done and how? i m attached the image of helical blade. |

I am only coming in to comment on this one because I was asked to ;)
Yes, you can mesh anything with ICEM CFD. Here is a Helical Blood pump I did in ICEM CFD years ago (for Medtronic, they signed a release on this image)... Attachment 25582 Making a mesh like this takes a bit of blocking skill and experience. The type of mesh is based on a number of factors, including the shape of the domain around the helical blade and other near by features. It is also affected by the blade features (sharp edge, trailing edge, etc.) If this is your first ICEM CFD Hexa project and you don't have time to grow your skills and figure it all out, I suggest you use tetra/prism. |
thnx a lot bro...
i had started ICEM CFD 2 weeks ago n don't have much idea about it. Is any tutorial available related to this? |
There isn't a tutorial for something as complicated as hexa blocking a helical blade, but you should look at the pipe blade tutorial to learn about collapsing blocks and the elbow part tutorial to learn more about Ogrids, and there is a special volute tutorial that will give you some insights into bottom up blocking tricks...

Is O-Grid possible in such structure.(Blocking of helical airfoil) |
Sure, it looks simple enough from the image... Topologically speaking, is it just a tube? Is the front pinched (merged)?
Yes, you could put an Ogrid around (or inside) this airfoil. Have you given it a try? Make sure to face the periodic sides. |
BY the way, if that is your flow domain for your helical airfoil. It doesn't look like you will have any problem at all. It looks very simple, just an airfoil in a box.
|
I had simply collapsed the side block of the airfoil and projected the edge around the airfoil onto airfoil surface. but while creating o-grid giving message
o-grid not successful. why it is giving this message? |
Yea, that doesn't work well. Imagine that the Ogrid now has to wrap 180 degrees at the trailing edge.
You need to go back a couple steps and put in a CGrid instead. Then, instead of just collapsing the trailing edge, you should collapse the trailing edge block. (in otherwords, Ogrid (Cgrid actually) first, then collapse.) This video should help with your strategy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYrbScUH9RE It is in 2D, but the idea is the same for 3D. |
okay will try using C grid.
In Helical airfoil is it easy to make Y type Block at trailing edge? |

These block are giving negative volume. why n how to remove it?
