be205 is on a distinguished road
Morning CFDers,

I've been running into a frustrating issue whilst using DesignModeler and Fluent in the workbench. Rather than continue hitting my head against a wall, I'd love to be saved the pain and get some help here!

Case Setup (extremely simple):
  • Shrouded hydrokinetic turbine (ie river current turbine)
  • 2D Shroud (ie confusor+diffusor) in a large rectangular domain, rotor is left out in this current case. I have it modeled as an actuator disc in CFX, will presumably make use of the fan model to represent it here in 2D for fluent.
  • Parametrised optimsation, making use of DoE approach to modify various aspects of geometry.

Problem:
  • I need some form of surface monitors to monitor pressure across shroud inlet and shroud outlet, as well as in the plane of the rotor. I have tried 2 approaches:
    • Attempting to insert internal lines during geometry creation in DesignModeler via create lines from sketch + project line to surface results in invalid 2d geometry errors when attempting to mesh.
    • Inserting surface monitors in Fluent itself - works fine for an individual case, however I am doing a parametrised optimsation and these surface monitors don't change with the geometry (to my knowledge)

My Questions:
  • What can I do to ensure correct 2D geometry with the first approach?
  • Can I parametrise surface monitors in such a way that they stay in the correct location after a geometry change?

Any help would be immensely appreciated. If diagrams etc. are required, say the word!

Best regards,

Ben
