Hi
I'm new to Ansys 15 design modeler. I've done what I am trying to do before using gambit/fluent and for some reason I can't seem to replicate the same workflow with design modeler. I've tried several different ways but so far no luck.

Here's what I am trying to do.

I have a solid part made with solidworks - actual solid that is hosting a fluid (liquid water).

This solid is complex but overall it is simple volume with an inner cavity that opens up to the outside with 2 holes, on is the inlet and the other is the outlet.

When I import this file in Design Modeler, my goal is to end up with 2 bodies - one solid and one fluid. Where the surface common to both bodies is a named selection called interface.

So I've tried importing:
- a solid and the matching fluid bodies
- solid and 2 caps (other bodies which I then removed after using the fill function)
- a solid and the fluid bodies and 2 caps...
- I've tried combinations of importing as an assembly and as a part.

I think the solution is to import as a part but I get weird import problems where the 2 bodies would be merged and only 1 body and 2 surfaces would be imported.

Is there a way to do this with the boolean function? I mean, I can subtract the solid and get the fluid but I need both the fluid and the solid in order for this to work.

In case you are wondering, the error/problem, is that once in fluent when applying all BC I am missing the WALL interface name selection (and its shadow) where I can actually set it to thermal/coupled.

All I have is the interface with no ways of editing it into to a wall to set it to "coupled" thermally.

I haven't ran the simulation because I've been there before and I am sure I need this as a coupled wall. If I do run it, there will be no heat transfer between my fluid and solid.

Any idea?workaround?

Thanks
Steve

I found a work around. I imported everything as STEP - ignored the name selection for the interface all together (the surface is way too complex anyway) and when in fluent I deleted the interface that fluent (or mesher not sure) created because it doesn't have the coupled option selected. I recreated it with coupled selected. and everything worked fine.
