Monitoring in batch mode

Dear all

We are considering the opportunities of running either CFX or FLUENT in batch mode on our university cluster - we have some questions though:

Is it possible to monitor the progress online by residuals and custom monitors? As I understand it, you request periodical data for every x iteration, temporarily stop the calculations, save the requested data to the journal file and restarting the calculations.
Is this correct? And how does this affect the calculations efficiency?
Are there any differences between FLUENT and CFX batch mode?

We are running unstable calculations that usually requires a lot of attention during the start-up + the ability to stop the calculation from iteration to iteration. Thus, updates every iteration would be highly preferable. Is this not possible in batch mode?

Joakim
