thermal stratification of a water container
A large container is partially filled with water. The rest is occupied by air. For reasons of simplicity we assume a steady heat flux on the top surface (solar load) and a general convection that takes place on all surfaces. I want to model the thermal stratification that will take place within the container. I haven't found anything similar so far. Which analysis system would be more suitable? I tried using CFX (ansys 16) but i keep getting weird temperatures.

Hi pkladisios,
I reckon you have to use CFX to model it. You mite be getting weird temperature cuz you have not set boundary condition right. I suggest ask this question in CFX Forum rather than General ANSYS forum. Also in the search bar above type " stratification" and you will find similar not same threads to get idea how to set up boundary. Cheers KAPI |
First of all, thank you for taking your time to answer. Is CFX capable of taking into consideration the thickness of the tank and the thermal exchange with the environment? Searching for stratification yielded me no results, for in all cases tank walls were adiabatic.

HI pkladisios,
I have never used tank thickness in CFX model but I am sure you can use tank thickness for heat transfer. As I said, askng question in CFX forum will really help. Cheer KAPI |
