ANSYS ICEPAK Transient simulation - waveguide thermal analysis

1 Attachment(s)
hey guys,

I went through the transient simulation chapter (chapter 13)on the ansys icepak tutorial. I am designing my own experiment but whenever i run the solution it jumps from a temperature of 20 to 4326 in 1 second and then for the next 18 seconds it stays as 4326..obviously something is wrong here but i cant seem to figure out what.

attached is an image of my design, and below are some details of my design.

description:

- simulation from 0.0 - 20.0s
- increments of 1s
- source power (100W)

Later on i will be designing heat sinks on top of the source to see the convection effect but first i want to see how the the two different heat sources interact with each other.

cheers guys.

Hi

Hi Chris,
Greetings.
First of all I'd like to know what is the flow condition. Natural convection/ forced convection. In natural convection that too a transient problem, without heat-sink/ heat spreader, I think the source temperatures going very high seems sensible. I suggest, first try simulating the same case in steady state environment and see what are the temperatures observed. Then you can switch to Transient. Also I think 1 sec time step seems a little huge. Try to re iterate the same using a combination of time step size and iterations per time step. Always make sure that your model is converging for each time step. Time step of the order of 0.05 Sec would be a good number to start with. :).
Instead of a fixed time step size, you can try different options available in setup. :)
