Transport through a porous media

Hello,

I am relatively new to CFD and Ansys Fluent and currently I am working on a project for which is based on a fluid interacting with a porous carbon particle/porous zone. There is a free-flow region around the particle, where only gas is present, as well as a porous carbon region which is penetrated by the gas. The gas also reacts with the porous carbon.

I am currently using a pressure-based solver for this transient problem along with the energy model and the species reaction (volumetric, wall, and particle reaction) model on. The material used for both the porous zone and the gas zone are both made from the a mixture composition.

The 2 major problems I am currently facing are:

1. How to define the starting mass fraction of carbon in the porous zone (without using a "fixed value")
2. How to confine the carbon (carbon<s> under fluent fluid) to the porous zone and not have it diffuse to the rest of the domain as time progresses .

Is this a valid approach, or should I be using a totally different rapport, such as the VoF method?

Dear Student_GF

Sorry to ask a question (I know you are looking for an answer). I do not know your answer as I am really new in Fluent for porous medium. But, I am looking for elbow-workbench.zip. Could you give me please? I cannot find it on net. Many many thanks.

Best Regards, Ray
