ICEM Ahmed Car body

Hello, new to the site and CFD in general.

I'm a 3rd year student currently working on a CFD project to analyse the flow over a Ahmed car body (3D). The software I'm using is Ansys ICEM, and it's the first time. So far it's been a nightmare, and I can't find any relevant tutorials to help. I'm meant to use a unstructured volume mesh. However all of the videos I have found seem to include blocking, which I was advised against.

What I did -

1) Import Ahmed Body geometry from Solidworks into ICEM 16.2

2) Drew a box around the geometry

3) Created PARTS. (Inlet, Outlet, Walls, Body)

4) Created SURFACES (Using 2-4 cuves)

5) Created FLUID & ORFN BODY (for FLUID I selected a point on either side of the box. For ORFN I selected one point on either side of the Ahmed Body)

6) Selected GLOBAL MESH and applied default settings

7) Selected VOLUME MESH and applied default settings

8) Clicked COMPUTE

The mesh was computed, however it was generated only on the surfaces on the box and the surfaces on the Ahmed Body. From my understanding that is completely wrong, and the mesh should fill the space within the and remain outside of the Ahmed Body.

Can anyone help? I will to upload some pictures of what I have s far.

You need to give them different names (geometry> create body)
see How to subtract solid from fluid region ICEMCFD
