Update: I believe I figured out what went wrong. The first time I made the geometry, I don't think I specified all of the dimensions. The second time I did specify all of the dimensions and the pre-meshed crack is white as it should be.

Hi! I'm trying to model fracture in a compact tension specimen for a class using Ansys Workbench 18.0. By the way, I'm an FEA novice. This class (fracture mechanics) is my first exposure to FEA. I modeled half of the CT specimen because it is symmetric. I'm using a remote force to apply an upward force in the center of the circle. A symmetric region was applied to the bottom-right side of the bottom; the symmetry normal is the y axis.

I'm running into an error when I click "solve" that says "The type of geometry selected is invalid for this object". The associated object appears to be the pre-meshed crack. I'm not sure why this error is happening; I set up the problem exactly the same way as I did for a center-crack tension specimen. I used a worksheet in the named selection to specify the pre-meshed crack. Under Pre-Meshed Crack, the Crack Front (Named Selection) box is colored yellow which seems to indicate that it is not configured properly. Here is a screenshot of the worksheet and specimen.

If I remove everything related to the crack and click solve it solves, but gives two warnings. So how I set up the crack must be the problem. Does anyone have an idea on another way to set up fracture with this problem?

Dear,

I have the same problem with Ansys Workbench v.15.
Please, how dis you solve this problem with pre-meshed crack?

Thanks!
