Obtaining a clean post production contour plot
I have successfully modelled, meshed, loaded and finally simulated what is to become a load cell. Unfortunately I am stuck on one specific part that regards general post production.
There are stress-relief channels on two of the four parts making up the entire load cell, with one of the volumes shown below (fig 1). I am interested in obtaining a contour plot of the von Mises stresses occurring at areas 527, 802, 803. I could easily obtain a contour plot of the von Mises stresses specifically for area 527 by moving the working plane around this area, then opting for a Q-Slice Z-buffer in the Hidden Line Options (fig 2). https://image.ibb.co/eAU95v/fig_1.jpg (fig 1) https://image.ibb.co/iv1NQv/fig_2.jpg (fig 2) The problem lies within the fact that the Z-buffer does not work for curved surfaces. The closest I have come to obtaining a contour plot of the curved areas was was by selecting areas; selecting associated nodes; selecting associated elements; plotting von Mises. Which software are you using, CFX? You would be getting smooth surface contours at least with Fluent just by plotting a contour on the selected face. I haven't used CFD-Post for a while, but I would say that it would be possible also there.
Maybe give CFD-Post a go? Or read the case and data files into Fluent. |
