Thermal expansion under elevated temperatures

Hello,
I am trying to model a fire protection collar which changes its volume under elevated temperatures. Basically, I have a wall consisting out of few layers and I have a pipe in it (). On both sides of the pipe I have a fire collar, which expands in fire in one direction, crushes the pipe, and closes the hole (Picture 1). For the beginning, I would assume that the expansion is linear over the time. Is it possible to simulate the expansion in Transient Thermal analysis and develop the temperature profiles? Or do I have do model the expansion in Transient Mechanical analysis and couple these two? In that case I can't first develop the temperature profiles, because the volume will change according to the temperature. Any ideas? |
