Hi, I am trying to use a 3-element Windkessel model to control my outlet boundary conditions. After reading through articles and other forums, I still have a couple questions I am hoping someone can help me with:

1) What programs do you use? Fluent/CFX, C/FORTRAN/MatLAB/LabVIEW?
2) Is there a way to write the user defined functions/boundary conditions so that it is coupled to the CFD? Ideally, the output of the CFD can be used in the UDF and iterate.

Thanks!

Hii Megan,

Yes, there are provisions to write a UDF that is coupled to the solver. However, the CEL that you specify in Ansys might do that explicitly. I found the following thread which might be helpful to you.

Pressure outlet as a function of the flow rate (windkessel)

Ansys Fluent or CFX is good for simulations if you have the license. CFX has some nice and easy to use CEL while UDFs can be defined in Fluent using C functions. You can find a lot of literature about those.

OpenFOAM is a great and very powerful alternative. However, it has a steep learning curve.
