Hello I did a run for a case in FLUENT then I attempted to open the case (to view the results) in CFD post but then the following error appear to me and the results not appear to me anymore:

Application Error in CFD-post : Error
Value for parameter "VarMax" is empty

No locators provided in location parameter

what is "VarMax" I have no idea what is it? somebody guide me how to fix this error please?

Thanks
mariam

I guess you open Fluent case in Post, while Post already had a different case open. Not?
Or do you work through Workbench and are opening the file in a Post session from an older simulation.

The reason I ask is that Post is looking for somehting that was there previously (from an older simulation) which no longer exists in the new simulation file.
In your particular case, it appears a parameter has been defined previously called VarMax. I guess this parameter is something like VarMax = maxVal(variable)@wall.
This parameter will provide the maximum of the variable at hte boundary called 'wall'. But appratently, the boundary called 'wall' no longer exists in your the new simulation. As a result, Post stops working. It simply says "No locators provided in location parameter".

My advice would be to open the state file (.cst-file) in a text editor (e.g. notepad) and replace the name of the missing boundary (wall in my example) into something that exists in your simulation.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I tried to open case in CFD from workbench to view the results. Where I can find the state file (.cst-file) you talking about?

Go to Windows explorer and search for a .cst file in your Workbench project directory. That is not so difficult............
It is located in the Post-directory of your latest calculation. Don't know which one it is.

Indeed, there is no VarMax in the file.

But to be honest, it is completely empty. The .cst-file only contains the default information that Post generates when you open Post without loading a case.
So, you need to locate the .cst connected to the old fluent case that did not give the error.

Second thought, Post can also give this error if in an old fluent case a variable was defined called VarMax. If you did not redefine this variable in your new fluent cas, then Post cannot find it anymore, leading to similar errors.

Thanks Gert-Jan for the quick respond. May you tell me how to locate CFD-posy to an old .cst file? there are old .cst files I want to try with it hope it resolve the problem?

If you open Post, and have load the case file, then you can load a state file, not? That is just one icon to the right........

Now I did a different way I save case and data file from workbench then open fluent read the case & data files and export data to CFD-post to view it via cfd-post then the error changed to the following:

No solution history was found for the selected file 'temp.cdat'.
ANSYS CFD-Post has searched the directory 'E:\results' for files that might be associated with the selected file.

ERROR
Cannot get mesh information. Looks like mesh file is missing.

so what happen now is it same as last error or what the problem?

I really don't know. I never use Workbench as I get really confused about files missing, system not working, etc. Hopeless. I call it Doesn'tWorkbench.

I solely use stand alone programs. So, what if you open CFD-Post stand alone, and then open a fluent .cas/.dat-file combination?

Btw, a .cas-file contains the settings and the mesh, a .dat-file contains the data. So, if you only have a cas file, there is no solution. If you only have a dat file, there is no mesh. You need both.

Btw, you don't have to export the fluent files. You can open cas/dat files directly in Post. At least in the latest version. In your state file, I see v13? And v15. Too old. Hopeless too. Sorry can't help you.
