Magnetostatic analysis system missing in ANSYS Workbench
 

Hi, I am using ANSYS Workbench on a remote cluster that is administrated by my employer. I believe there should be a 'Magnetostatic' analysis system available; however, it is not shown in the 'Analysis Systems' list in the Workbench toolbox. If I click on 'View All/Customize...' at the bottom of the toolbox window, Magnetostatic is listed and its box is checked; however, it seems to be the only system that doesn't appear in the toolbox window.


Can anyone explain what is causing this behavior? I am using ANSYS 19.2 and I have tried on both Windows and Linux - the behavior is the same on both.

Just guessing here. Do you have an appropriate license to run magnetostatic? What license do you have?

@evcelica: does Magnetostatic require a different license to the rest of Workbench? It appears that it's using the solver that is included in ANSYS APDL.


How can I check what license I am using?

On Windows:
Start >> all programs >> ANSYS 19.2 >> ANSYS Client Licensing >> CLIENT ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility 19.2 >> View Status/Diagnostic Options >> Display the license status.


Or if you open the mechanical window on another analysis, it should say the license at the top. You can look up the capabilities of that license. Looks like you need Mechanical Enterprise for electromagnetic. https://www.ansys.com/-/media/ansys/...lities-192.pdf

According to the Mechanical window, I am using 'ANSYS Mechanical Enterprise'.


As far as the License Manager, I don't seem to have access to the 'Client ANSLIC_ADMIN' utility through the Start menu; however, I can open a 'License Preferences' window from the Workbench 'Tools' menu. On there, it says I should have access to a license for Maxwell, but that isn't showing in the Toolbox either and I have no idea how to open it.

Maxwell must be installed separately from regular ansys. You have to Download and install the ANSYS electromagnetics suite from ANSYS customer portal.



Magnetostatic should show up even without the electromag suite though. Perhaps it wasn't clicked during the ANSYS install process, and so was never installed.

Ok, thanks. It's possible that Magnetostatic wasn't installed. I'll contact the admin team that runs the remote cluster and ask them.


Out of interest, does Maxwell run within Workbench, or is it a completely separate application? I guess I'm wondering if it is possible to connect its input/output to other systems.

Maxwell works within workbench, but I have only ever connected external geometries to it. It looks like you can use a maxwell solution output as another systems input, but not visa-versa. (I'm no expert though)
