Hi all,

I am doing a 2D transient simulation of soot cake combustion in diesel particle filter. At this point , I can get everything right except velocity field. I know velocity field is very sensitive to soot cake permeability and I just assumed that soot cake layer is composed of spherical particle fixed in space.

However, I can not get reasonable velocity field with this model. I read some literature of fixed bed combustion simulation and noticed some of those authors used porous layer compaction or shrinkage model. Namely, there is mass and enthalpy exchange between adjacent cells to mimic porous layer compaction.

I am wondering do I need this model in diesel particle filter simulation?
Can anybody give me some suggestions?

Best regards

Weiqiang
