Contact modeling in FLUENT
 

Hi All,

I have several 2D solid bodies in contact with one another for which I solve heat conduction. No CFD involved. I use Workbench to set up the analysis. Mesher automatically identified the contact edges and generated Contact Regions between the solids. Is there any way to transfer the Contact Regions into Fluent ? I mean it takes a lot of time and effort to set up the contact in FLuent by hand. Epsecially when I have not just several bodies but let's say 200 solids all contacting with each other. Thank you.

I do not know whether i recognize the problem properly. You have a fluid area within it there are a couple solid objects? Or couple solids one next to another...
If you want to have a coupled wall boundary condition, do not play with contact regions.

The only thing to set up is to create an one part model (in the design modeller) and remove/erase any contact regions that mesher will create.
After that mesh loaded into FLuent will be treated as one part model made of more. The shadows/walls will be created and a coupled option in wall-BC can be used.

Hi Geisel,

I am trying exactly this with a hot plate (solid) being surrounded by a liquid channel. The channel has been generated with the "enclosure" feature. When I mesh all of this and import it to fluent I dont get the shadow wall thus can not choose BC "coupled". Is there something to watch in the meshing process ?? I have deleted the connections.

pchama1 and King, in your geometry did you assembly all the parts in a multibody part? You can have them as differents parts but you will need to connect them in Fluent one by one (this gives you more options in the meshing process), or you can make a Multiboy part and everything will be connected, doesnt matter if one is a fluid and the other solid....
