Hi,

I am trying to mesh mid0-size complexity model. At the very end of meshing process, the Workbench mesher crashes with the following message:

ANSYSWBU.exe encountered a problem. A diagnostic file has been written:

C:\Users\...\ApplData\Local\Temp\AnsysWBDumpFile.d mp

I didn't go too far to nail down the cause of this error by reading the crash dump file (text editor does not help).

I am using ANSYS Workbench 12.1 version installed on 64-bit operating systems with Windowa Vista Business Edition (SP2) 2007 edition.

Don't know if it is software or OS issue or the size of the problem I am simulating (anticipated 7-8 million of cells).

Would appreciate any quick help on this, since I am already behind with delivering results of simulation.

Thanks.

You need to log this with tech support since they can get the *.dmp file analyzed to find out why it is crashing (this is a standard windows crash format file that can be debugged by using windbg).

Is this happening just with the model?

If it is happening more often usually crashes like this are associated with the graphics card and/or driver version.

Thanks a lot for prompt answer. It happened couple of times with other models as well, but this time more often (maybe because of the size of the model).

I also read couple of posts where people associate this problem with graphics cards and drivers.

I think the best way is to send the .dmp file to be analyzed.

Thanks one more time.

Hi guys,

I think I've isolated the problem to be a compatibility issue using workbench in windows 7 with an ATI card. Let me know if it's the same you all.

Tested solution above for both ANSYS 12.1 & 13. It didn't solve the issue.

Local HPMPI and other components are running fine.

Hi Darren,

WB Meshing (v13) is working perfectly in my case.
Window 7 - 64bit in workgroup setting connected to Ethernet switch (no Internet access).
Hope you fix it.
Best of luck.

Hi Emre,

Have you tried to install the System environment variable ANS_OLD_ATTACH = 1?

Advanced system settings / Environment variables
On System variables select -> New
On variable name -> ANS_OLD_ATTACH
On variable value -> 1

OK & Save

Try this and good luck.

anyway, i solved the problem by setting the new variables. On the other hand what does this solution mean? How did we solve it?

Emre,

this is the message you got:-
‘ANSYSWBU.exe encountered a problem. A diagnostic file has been written’:
C:\...\...\....\...\Temp\AnsysWBDumpFile.dmp

On the WB messages also it says:
‘Unable to attach the geometry file... An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host’.

Attaching geometry occurs if the mesh was created when the machine is on network (or connected to Ethernet switch).

To avoid this happening we simply set the environment variable ANS_OLD_ATTACH = 1.

Enjoy!
