Need Help With ICEM Meshing
 

As the thread title probably indicates I'm pretty new to ANSYS CFD software, and I'm having problems meshing my geometry models satisfactorily.

My model is a basic tyre inside a rectangular tunnel, touching the bottom and I need to mesh it so that the tyre can be set as a rotating wall later on. I managed to get the model to run once but since then I can't replicate it again and in the solver error always says there's something wrong with my mesh...

Firstly, I would like to have nice regular grid meshes on all of the surfaces of the model, which I can get OK, but then as soon as I try to add a volume mesh too the whole thing changes and I'm left with messy and irregular mesh structures. Can anyone give any advice on basic meshing methods? I would really appreciate some help.

Secondly, I can't get the mesh to work around the tyre contact point (the tyre is modelled as a basic cylinder, no depression at the contact point yet), the 'road' surface seems to meld into the tyre model which means I can't have a rotating wall. Has anyone done modelling of a moving vehicle or rolling cylinders before or know of any papers that could help?

I'm hoping my problems are really basic and someone can help, thanks in advance.

Oh and I'm using ANSYS 12.1.

Just a thought, but try meshing the tire and the wall separately to avoid them combining together at the interface.

Use the blocking strategy to mesh. Don't do a volume mesh fill from surfaces. Create the blocking topology and generate the mesh that way.

Hopefully this will send you in a better direction.

Thanks for the advice, I did try to use blocking to mesh it but since I'm so new to this I couldn't figure out how to do it, I'm using an academic version at uni and we don't seem to have access to tutorials either.

I did eventually get this model to work, I changed the geometry dimensions around a bit and used basic octree tetra meshing which worked well with a bit of sizing. Not the structured mesh I was originally hoping for but it did the job.

from the picture I feel that you have bad connection with ground maybe meshes in there are bad

Check for quality of determinant 2x2x2 and angle !
