One of the most simple and most used ones is Fluent and Gambit or the latest version called Ansys workbench.

make sure what you are analyzing.. Like combustion pattern, Formation of soot/Nox, Effect of different fuels, effect of diff injection/spark timings etc.

in my personal experience I had trouble running Ansys 13.. And Ansys 13 miss Gambit. If you are starting fresh it might not be a problem

As you said you're working on BE project, I assume that you have very limited time to complete.

IC engine simulation is not just one small things actually many small analysis are involved, and learning each of them in short time might be difficult.

It can mainly be classified in structural and fluid analysis, and there is FSI (fluid structure interaction), in FSI you study effect of fluid on structure or vice-versa.

If you're from mechanical stream you should opt some structural analysis and if you would like to do fluid analysis (using CFD), learn from some research papers/project first and then use CFX or Fluent tutorials. Although cfx doesn't have particular ic engine tutorial, it has some other relevant tutorials.
