Lynus is on a distinguished road
Hi all,

I am not a CFD specialist, i work mostly with FEM. I found myself working on Autodesk CFD at the moment and have a question regarding the method in which Solid Body Motion is modeled.

So, I read that the method for updating the results obtained while a solid body moves thorough a fluid volume is to detect the mesh nodes of fluid which overlaps the mesh nodes of solid and zero the velocity at these locations. Also called Masking technique.

I was wondering if this is a normal way to model such phenomenon or if instead more complex modeling alternatives exist, such as updating the fluid volume mesh at each time step. I could imagine that a mode detailed mesh (updated at each time step) around my solid would result in a better computation of the solid-fluid interaction near the moving wall.

I am not saying that the type of modeling implemented in Autodesk CFD is no good, just asking if something better exists or if this is the traditional way of solving such problems.

Thanks for your help.
