Default Modelling Transition in the Boundary Layer

Hi,

Taking the previous questions about transition modelling a bit further, do any of you have any thoughts/ideas about modelling the transition region of the boundary layer using a transition model? What I'm interested in knowing if it is possible/feasible, is to implement an algebraic transition model in star. I would of course use the 2-layer turbulence model, and finely mesh near the wall. The simple model solves the NS eqns using an effective viscosity mu(effective)= (gamma - 1)*mu(lam) + gamma*mu(turb) where gamma (the intermittency) is a fcn of local flow parameters such as pressure gradient, Re, etc., and it varies between 0 (totally laminar) and 1(totally turbulent).

I'm just a little bit stuck on where I would put this subroutine in star.

If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Tara

I have modelled transitional 2-d boundary layers in PHOENICS, quite successfully, where I used the freestream velocity to predict skin friction, displacement thickness etc. I assumed that the boundary layer was a sink of momentum. If you want any further details then email me.
