GIF Files On Windows NT

Hi,

When I try and use SCDUMP all I get is a load of rubbish. I have a feeling that the gif files are not in Windows format but are still in the UNIX format where star originated from. Does anyone know of a way around this as I do not have access to UNIX.

Thanks

Re: GIF Files On Windows NT

This is a long-standing known bug of the NT version that we have not found an answer to. However, you can write a neutral plot file (term,,file), go to the "plot" button on the launch bar and select "Convert to Gif" from the list of plot options.

Just one out of many bugs made especially for NT users. I use (i.g. for movies) SCDUMP PS2. After renaming the files to *.ps (MSDOS ren) I use the batch utilitiy of ConvertPS 4.5 to rotate and convert to gif.

Re: GIF Files On Windows NT

hi MK,

i had the same problem. to get around this i just caputered the screen (alt + print screen), then pasted it into photoshop (or any other drawing program) and cropped what i didnt need.

i know this is only a band-aid solution, but it works.

good luck dave

Hi All,

Thanks for your info, the best way I found was the first method listed, the conversion program did not work at first but after playing with the settings on XVision it produces good results.

Best regards

Re: GIF Files On Windows NT

MK, Can you tell me what you had to do to Xvision in order to make it work? Steve

Re: GIF Files On Windows NT

Why not try the following...

I also use XVision on Windows NT and it works perfectly.

Utility > Save_screen as > Gif...

Then ftp the image to NT remembering to select BINARY ftp instead of asc.

Re: GIF Files On Windows NT

I don't understand - You mean you save it in gif format directly from Prostar on NT and then ftp it to your NT machine and that fixes it? Steve

Re: GIF Files On Windows NT

Steve,

Start up your XVision properties, press the colour tab and choose 'let me specify a particular default visual class', choose PseudoColour and turn off Windows system colours, turn on Empty private colourmaps which frees up memory for Prostar. Then change back from PseudoColour to TrueColour and apply. I think you have to restart. The conversion program should then work perfectly.

Re: GIF Files On Windows NT

Thanks for the information. You know in our last NT port, we dropped XVision and replaced it with Reflection X. We found that the later versions of XVision were much buggier than the older version.

By the way - just for everyone's information. In preparation for 3.1B on NT, we have been porting the latest version of Prostar and this whole GIF/screen dump problem just went away. It will work in the next release.
